The addition of Bambu Restaurant, designed and built by Misho + Associates, to the refurbished Sydney Cove International Passenger Terminal has created an engaging space that pushes many design boundaries. The new fit out aimed to create an intimate atmosphere in an otherwise intimidating, industrial space. The initial concept of an organic, sculptural form by Misho + Associates, was realised through the close collaboration with artist, Horst Kiechle.

The Waterfront Restaurant has occupied one of the most amazing sites in Sydney since the 1970’s. The Campbell’s Stores building, where the restaurant is located is an early 19th century heritage building of great significance. The new fit out for the restaurant was a complete strip out of the 1970’s interior. The design approach revolved around preserving and accentuating the historic beauty and textures of the original building. New free form elements have been introduced to the existing internal roof structure. All new services have been carefully detailed to make them virtually invisible. Dilapidated windows have been replaced with single sheets of glass to present a spectacular view of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour. The refurbishment also included the upgrade of the restaurant’s administration offices.
